Farewell Free Will!

26 Feb 2012 | Women | By dhruvarora

The honorable Women and Child Welfare Minister of Karnataka, C C Patil, seems to have figured out the cause of women getting sexually harassed. According to the latest statement released by mister minister, the cause of sexual harassment lies in a woman’s choice to dress up in a ‘flimsy and fashionable’ manner.

We wonder why the thought never crossed our minds. Of course, moral values among men are directly proportional to the percentage of skin covered by a woman! Perhaps all we need is to prevent women from dressing up like they want to; the passing of a रोकpal bill, if you will. And while we are at it, we could even consider revoking the right to free will. Restricting the timings that women are allowed to step on the street may help as well! You know, something on the lines of a women’s compartment in a metro? We say 12pm-6pm be the allowed timings for women and men to be able to freely walk on the streets, and 6pm-11:59am be strictly men-only timings!

It’s easy to blame the western culture, Mister Minister, but perhaps it would make more sense to look into why men engage in such a behavior in the first place, rather than subtly shifting the blame to the size of one’s clothes, or lack of them?
